Identifying House plants

Identifying House plants can be tricky since nurseries (and peopl) tend to call them by their common names instead of their latin names. Common names vary quite a bit between regions and cultures. So you will have to rely on your powers of observation. Look at leaf shape and size, as well as leaf texture and color. You will observe its growth habit: tall and thin, low and bushy, creepy and vine-like, etc. You will also notice its blooms and its fruits. When caring for a houseplant, it is hard to know how to keep it healthy unless you can identify what type of plant it is. Plants vary so much in how they liked to be cared for - some need constant watering - others need long dry spells. Some need fertilizers, some will die within days of fertilization. Identifying house plants is the first and most important step in learning to care for them.
